Haven
House: Supervised Transitional Living for Young Adults
Young people
between 18 and 24 challenged with mental illness, chemical dependence, or both,
have special needs. Even intact families may find their abilities stretched to
the max, and may not be able to keep these young adults at home. Yet they still
need a safe place to stay, and special help transitioning into adults with
skills needed to live independently. Few programs, however, are available for
mentally ill young adults in this age group. Haven House is a newly opened,
unique, wrap-around treatment facility for mentally ill or dually diagnosed
young adults who may be homeless and are having difficulty accessing services.
This Everett facility is one of a handful of programs targeting young adults,
and the only one in Snohomish County. It provides supervised transitional living
for homeless young adults who have mental illness. Haven House furnishes case
management, medication management, drug and alcohol assessment, and treatment,
if needed. Additional focus is on strengthening daily living skills and
social/recreational opportunities. The goal of Haven House is to help clients
move into a more independent, community setting within two years. Hopeful news
indeed for many parents who may be at the end of their ropes.
Haven House was established through the
collaboration of: Compass Health, HUD, the State Department of Economic Trade
& Development, Snohomish County Development, Snohomish County HOME, and the
Federal Home Loan Bank.
